The arrival of H5 avian influenza in South Australia is certainly significant, but it's not entirely unexpected. Australia has been the last major continent in the world to remain free from this strain, and for more than two years we've been watching its progression internationally and preparing for its eventual arrival.
At this stage, there is no reason for visitors to avoid enjoying South Australia's incredible natural environments. People should continue to explore our national parks, wetlands and coastal regions while following any advice from authorities regarding wildlife interactions. Public awareness and responsible behaviour will be important parts of the response.
Our tours are safe and operating as usual.
