Birds of the Coorong

The Coorong is a birdwatcher's paradise, with its diverse wetlands, lagoons and coastal habitats providing an important refuge for an incredible variety of resident and migratory bird species.

As part of our commitment to conservation, Spirit of the Coorong proudly participates in BirdLife Australia's annual Aussie Bird Count, recording the birds encountered during our regular sightseeing cruises.

Over the past three years, our crew has recorded an impressive 77 different bird species during our annual bird surveys, each conducted within a short 20-minute counting window!

The bird list below represents the combined species recorded across these surveys. While not every species is spotted on every cruise, the results highlight the remarkable diversity of birdlife that can be encountered while exploring the Coorong.
